Parkston - Elenora "Norie" Anna Herman, 83, went to her heavenly home Tuesday, August 14 at Avera St. Benedict Hospital in Parkston. Funeral mass will be Saturday, August 18 at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston. Visitation will be Friday, August 17 from 5 to 7 pm with a 7:00 pm prayer service at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston. Funeral arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Parkston.

Norie was born May 28, 1935, to Mathias C. and Floranna (Smith) Gau on the family farm near Parkston, SD. She grew up on the farm and attended country school near there. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and graduated from Parkston High School in 1953. After graduation, she helped her parents on the farm. She was united in marriage to Gerald Herman on November 19, 1957, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston. The couple made their home on a farm near Parkston where they farmed and raised their family. Norie worked for M-Tron, Neumayr’s Market, Al’s Food Town, Parkston Food Center, and Raven Industries before joining Gerald in the family business, Herman Appliance. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Altar Society and enjoyed sewing, quilting, bowling, gardening, canning, dancing, bike rides, and playing cards and games. She loved family gatherings and visiting with family, friends, neighbors, and customers at the family business.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Gerald of Parkston; 3 children: Dale Herman of Olivet, SD; Velda (Steve) Pruner of Parkston; and Marsha (Steve) Altstiel of Sturgis, SD; 12 grandchildren: Matthew (Amber) Pruner, Stephanie Pruner, Zachariah Pruner, Jeremy Herman, all of Sioux Falls, SD; Amy (Ryan) Townsend of Madison, SD; Angela (Trevor) Olson of Sundance, WY; KatieJo Herman of Aberdeen, SD; Steven Herman of Olivet, SD; Sarah (Austin) Koehn of Viborg, SD; Rebecca Herman of Parkston; Jenna Herman of Watertown, SD; and Scott Altstiel of Sturgis, SD; 9 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters: Evelyn Whitcher of Des Moines, IA; Eileen Gau of South English, IA; and Darlene Campo of Des Moines, IA; and a brother, Herbert Gau of Des Moines, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mathias and Floranna Gau; son, Wayne Herman; sister, Genevieve Pulse; a brother, Gilbert Gau; and twin sisters at birth, Marie and Margaret.
